April 2024 BOM 4 is here!

Updated: Mar 31

Block of the month quilt with 4 blocks shown

Happy Spring! It is time for BOM Block 4!

Easter is almost here and 2024 is a quarter of the way done already. Let us get started on the next block in our Sampler BOM.

Squared Chain block for BOM4

April BOM - Block 4

For the April BOM, we chose the Squared Chain block (or Chain Link). This time around, we are going to tackle the scary partial seam. It looks and sounds harder than it really is and the Squared Chain block only has one partial seam so it is a good place to start.

The block consists of only square and rectangle pieces and it is sometimes referred to as a "puzzle piece" block because of the over-and-under look of the block center. Viewers will think you have done quilt magic with this one.

March Block 3 samples

It is so much fun seeing the BOM samples made by our readers. We have a particular reader who is using it as a learning experience and experimenting with color combinations. Another few readers are making the quilt so they are using coordinating fabrics. I made a boo-boo one month so I turned that particular block into a hotpad--it's the perfect size! We would love to see what you are doing with yours. @frecklesontheside, @quiltinginthewoods, @mountainviewquilts

How the BOM works.

Each month, on the last Wednesday, we will send out a newsletter with that month's block, instructions, tips for designers, and the ability to purchase Adobe Illustrator digital images from our store to add to a pattern you are writing. Be sure to sign up to receive our newsletter to get the BOM instructions every month.

The newsletter will include the link to download the block so you can sew along with us. It is written with standardized wording that we use here at Quilt Pattern Writers. That way, if you are a pattern designer, you can use the wording in your pattern. If you are a designer looking for a ghostwriter, you can see some of our work as we use this wording throughout the patterns we write. The digital files will include step-out diagrams, diagrams for standard units and assembly, as well as the finished block. Think of all the time you will save when you start adding these to your library! All for a nominal cost that you can write off as a business expense.

Join Us

We hope you will join in the fun every month and make all twelve blocks. It is so fun to see how everyone puts their spin on a BOM quilt. And we would love you to share your blocks with the tags @quiltpatternwriters, #qpw2024bom, #qpw2024samplerquilt, and #qpw.
